Sustainability of timber

We feel a huge responsibility to our customers to supply them with ethically sourced products and naturally only use FSC certified timber. However, we take this further, as, just because a timber comes from an FSC certified supplier doesn't mean it is ethical to use that timber or that you can be sure of complete traceability. For example, in our opinion felling a three hundred year old tree from the African Rainforests is unethical and unsustainable whether it can be certified or not. For this reason we no longer use any of the tropical hardwoods (sapele, utile, Iroko etc).

Instead of using these tropical hardwoods we have sourced other products for our window and door cills, so we can continue supplying products that will stand the test of time. Accoya is a vinegar treated softwood which we use for cills and a new product called kibani has just come on to the market, which we are also able to offer as a viable and equally durable replacement for hardwoods.

As we have complete traceability of all the timber we use we know exactly where in the world it comes from right down to the foresting company who fell the tree. This is something that is very important to us.
